U2-67 : THRILLER PROJECT 2007/8

Comprehensive analysis of a Thriller film.

Catch me if you can (Steven Spielberg 2002)

The opening title sequence of this film is laid out through the use of animation. Cartoon characters are used to represent the general structure of events in the film. For example, in the film the character Frank, played by Leonardo DiCaprio is a infamous con-artist being persuade by the FBI. The prolonging theme in the film of Frank evading the FBI is symbolized through a variety of animation techniques, these include an animated Frank climbing a staircase, however as he reaches the top, the stairs start to disappear, leaving the FBI agent left behind at the bottom. This symbolizes that Frank is untraceable.
The typography of the credits are shown through a series of lines that combine together to form words. After the name is formed the lines separate, this also represents the mystery and illusion the film involves.
The actual animation used to show the film title, is the same as the other text, however it is larger and the "me" in the title is shown as a cloud. This cloud is then wisped away, just like Frank by an oncoming aeroplane.
The music used is subtle jazz, it uses a flute to create a mysterious and mischievous setting.
